FIVE TO ONE
48″ x 36″
Acrylic on Canvas
2013
This is my first painting. I was working a lot during this time with no time to be creative, I didn’t make time for that or anything else. When I look back at this painting, I can see I had a lot of pent up creative energy that needed to come out. Yes, I did dip my paint brushes in beer during this because it felt appropriate to depict Jim Morrison’s wild, reckless nature which I was vibing with at the time. It also seems appropriate that I sold this painting for less than what the canvas alone was worth to pay a bill on time. The lyrics read “Trade in your hours for a handful of dimes”.

A reflection on my personal self-destructive nature and how I also see it in others. I started the painting during an intense panic attack and finished it during an intense year.
